The Fogarty® Arterial Embolectomy Catheter (Edwards Lifesciences) was designed in 1961 by Dr. Thomas J. Fogarty for the removal of soft and fresh emboli or thrombi from the arterial system. In 1963, Edwards began mass production of the Fogarty catheter. This catheter is available in five sizes (2F to 6F) in Iran and is designed for single use. It features several key characteristics:

  • The balloon is securely attached to the catheter using a coil-winding method.
    • The balloon is designed to provide uniform pressure, precise elasticity, and optimal contact with the vessel walls.
    • The rounded tip ensures smooth insertion, minimizing damage to the vessel walls.
